“Neributa” is the name of the techniques to produce top quality hog bristle heads. It means kneaded hog bristles in Japanese which only the finest Chungking hog bristle are used for its production. This method has been developed for more than 40 years by Japanese Brushmakers who possess superb brush making skills. It has been reigning as the top quality hog brush in the world. This is our series 10, 11 and 12 Finest Hog bristle brushes. Cream coloured, not bleached or boiled this top line offers a naturally flagged, memory shape interlocked construction that brings the brush back to the original shape after use.

Luke suggests that you keep a second set of brushes for oil paint and acrylic for a few reasons. When painting with acrylic you often leave brushes in water when not in use, this will cause the natural hair to swell loosening the hairs that are tied within the ferrule (the metal part of the brush that connects the hair to the handle). Acrylic paint dries very quickly, it creates a film on natural hair and makes it less effective at holding artist colour over time. When using brushes from acrylic  that have been previously used with oil paint the brush will hold less paint because of the oil residue left behind.

While there are drawbacks to using natural bristles with acrylic, Luke particularly likes them for working with acrylic gel and polymer mediums and for multi-media projects. These brushes may wear faster than synthetics, if you'd prefer a premium synthetic brush try out Aquatec Oil & Acrylic Brushes .

For oil paint be sure to clean the excess paint out of your brush after use with Eco-House Neutral Thin . For acrylic paint rinse with water. After the initial rinse with thinner or water wash with brush with "The Masters" soap and water. Lay flat or hang bristle side down to dry. Don't stand the brush bristle side down on any surface to dry as this will cause permanent damage to the brush. Care questions? Email us!
