    What are the uses and benefits of walnut oil?


    A natural alternative to harsh solvents and lower-quality oils, walnut oil can be used to make oil paints more fluid, as well as to clean paintbrushes and other artists’ tools. Walnut oil also oxidizes far less quickly than other oils, leaving your artwork free of the darkening that can come with oxidization. Walnut oil allows for less yellowing, fading, and greater freedom of application.


    How do I use oil colours?

    In the tradition of the masters, M. Graham artists’ oil color is made with pure walnut oil for its brilliance, clarity, texture, and resistance to fading and yellowing. Working in small batches, we craft oil colors true to the roots of Renaissance painting: delicately free-flowing, solvent-free, and with no fillers or additives.

    With the exceptionally high pigment loads in M. Graham artists’ oil colors, your work will naturally feel more alive and vibrant, imbued with rich, lustrous color for years to come.

    We chose to build our oil paint with this oil because its unique refractive index and non-yellowing nature produces color that is more naturally alive and brilliant. In addition walnut oil allows us to increase the amount of pigment in each color, resulting in extraordinary richness, color saturation, brilliance and tinting strength.

    Our commitment to the artist extends to their environment. At M. Graham, we have freed ourselves from solvents in our work environment. You can free your studio of dangerous solvents as well. Using walnut oil to clean brushes is a natural way to remove color without creating a solvent hazard.
