Rembranst, Turner, and Townsend all used Gamboge in their works, but it was Turner who realized its potential in watercolour! Original Gamboge is a highly toxic pigment, which comes from the sticky yellow sap of Garcinia (sp.) trees which grow in southeastern Asia. Our Gamboge is a near replica of the original warm gold pigment (without the toxicity!), and lends itself beautifully to all subject matter. Mix Gamboge with Prussian Blue to create the original Hooker’s Green.
